Delaney Discusses Fisher House with WFMD Frederick
FREDERICK, MD. (LG) The Fisher House Foundation is celebrating 25 years of providing a 'home away from home' for families of wounded warriors and veterans receiving care at V-A and military medical centers. From the White House to Capitol Hill, the Fisher House Foundation has many supporters, including 6th District Congressman John Delaney.
"We've discovered that if the Fisher House didn't exist, a lot of these families either, wouldn't be able to be with their loved ones, or they would be in a position where they would have to incur significant expenses that many of them can't afford," said Congressman Delaney. "We've encountered situations where families were coming and camping out on the lawns of these V-A hospitals, and I think that just doesn't pass the 'look yourself in the mirror' test when you think about the sacrifice that our veterans have made."
The homes that the Fisher House Foundation offer are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 65 Fisher Houses and many more are under construction or in design.
